The Kneedoc SurgeonMr. Sanjiv Jari Mr Sanjiv Jari is a Consultant Lower Limb & Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Surgeon at Hope Hospital (University of Manchester Teaching Hospital) and at The Manchester Sports Medicine Clinic. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery at The University of Manchester as well as an examiner for undergraduate medical students at the University of Manchester.
Mr Jari completed his higher surgical training in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery following which he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999. In addition to his Medical and Surgical qualifications, Mr Jari has a BSc (Hons) in Anatomy. He also has a Sports Medicine Fellowship Diploma from the University of Indiana, USA. Mr Jari trained in London and Manchester, following which he worked in the USA for a year at a prestigious Sports Medicine Clinic dealing with, amongst other things, injuries in elite and professional athletes. Mr Jari is a member of British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma Association (BOSTA), The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), The British Association of Surgery to the Knee (BASK), British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine (BASEM), United Kingdom Doctors in Sport (UKADIS), The British Trauma Society (BTS) and The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA). Mr Jari is the Team Surgeon to the British Olympic Wrestling Team. He also works with many other professional and elite sports teams and players, treating various injuries especially around the knee. He has written articles on Sports Medicine and Injuries in Fighters Magazine. Mr Jari's NHS and private practise involves lower limb surgery and trauma surgery. He has set-up a dedicated knee rehabilitation and triage service in conjunction with specialist therapists, which includes biomechanical ligament assessment using a KT-1000, a tool not generally available in the UK. His practice includes keyhole surgery of the knee and ankle, ligament reconstructive knee surgery, cartilage transplantation in sports injuries and early arthritis, knee-cap realignment surgery as well as foot and ankle surgery. In addition to sports surgery, he has a large practice in arthritis surgery and specialises in minimally invasive total and half knee replacements. Mr Jari is a national and international speaker on knee surgery and sports injuries. He has a number of on going research studies in various aspects of lower limb surgery and is also involved in a number of novel gait laboratory studies. His research commitment has included supervision of post-graduate doctors undertaking higher degrees.
